Just came across a really good deal on a used Toyota Sequoia. It went through the recall and has a new frame, brake lines, most of the suspension etc etc. looks damn near new and is cheap for what it is.
Anyone have any input on Sequoias? I know they are huge and get garbage mpg. However it’d be for hauling stuff for me, only doing a couple thousand miles a year so the mileage doesn’t really matter. I’ve been loving my 4Runner, but it is a bit small for what I do with it, and the Sequoia also has my favorite 4Runner feature of the roll down rear window.

I like them. They’re slower than they should be, they brake like absolute shit, they feel huge huge huge...but they’re incredibly solid and will always get you to where you need to be.
Plus roll down rear window.

There’s an 06 and 01 that both have new frames and in great shape locally. Looking at 06 first, it’s a bit more, but 5sp vs 4, more power and it’s A limited vs SR5 so leather. Both are cheap enough I can pay cash without any real difficulty.

My brother had an ‘05 SR5 for a while. Very tall, rode rough like a truck. Can fit 7 adults no problem. Slow, but pulls. Much like the Tundra is versus the Tacoma, the Sequoia is likely better bang for the buck than a V6 4Runner.

I made an insane offer on a 2007 Sequoia a few years ago. Heaps of cosmetic issues, blown speakers, but one owner . The amount of candy mung ground into every nook and cranny was disgusting. They eventually accepted after 8 months with no interest whatsoever.
Anyway, I have grown to love the tree. Easy to work on, parts are cheap, drives remarkably nice given the size (much improved by a Bilstein/Old Man Emu suspension setup as the rear air springs were failing). Tows great, deals with mountain roads and BLM tracks around here with aplomb.
Picture after the 2.5 lift with the suspension upgrade.
